our new normal

i shared my wind down routine earlier this year after spending a lot of the winter really prioritizing how my evenings went to get solid sleep.

last month, we had a big change to our schedules when brynlee started pre-k! she goes every weekday from 8:30am-2:30pm. we considered homeschooling for a bit but ultimately with where we see our family in a few years, we felt private school was the best option for us.

our summer was pretty lax & while we soaked up a ton of family fun, traveled & made amazing memories, we didn’t have a ton of structure so when august rolled around, we spent a few weeks backing up her bedtime, nailing down a routine & figuring out what would work best for our new normal.

ideally at brynlee’s age, she still needs 10-11 hours a night of sleep. one thing i have always appreciated is that brynlee has always been a good sleeper. she is solid right around 11 hours so we knew 8pm was the ideal bedtime so she’d have a few to fall asleep, needing to be up by 7:30am for school. here’s what we’ve been doing:

my healthy hot cacao with homemade gut healthy marshmallows

  • 6/6:30pm - we take a post dinner family walk outside to get some fresh air, cure restless energy & talk about our day tomorrow.

  • 7pm - we get brynlee in the bath & let her soak for a bit while she plays. we do a bath every weeknight during the school year to fight off the germs as best as possible.

  • 7:30pm - little pre-bed snack & some snuggles.

  • 8pm - we take her up, tuck her in, read a story & give love before she closes her eyes for a good night sleep.

  • 8pm - now my wind down routine begins!

once we have brynlee in bed i will then go right into my nighttime routine. i usually shower when we get back from our post dinner walk while brynlee plays in the bath & do my skincare / get in my pjs so i am ready to grab my kindle, put on my castor oil pack, make my hot cacao & wind down. i broke down my entire wind down routine here, even though the timing has changed since i am getting up at 6:30am now, i am usually in bed by 9:30pm, what i do hasn’t changed! i still truly cherish that time to myself.

do you have a wind down routine? tell me about it!
