that sweet wind down routine

i love my family dearly but when 8/8:30pm rolls around its time for your girl to wind down. i take my wind down time seriously because for a looooong time i was a night owl. i didn’t quite respect the amount of sleep my body & mind truly needed. it began to wreak havoc on me. in the fall last year i started building out a wind down routine. now, before you’re like “that sounds like work already” it really isn’t, i promise!

the first step to take is simple. determine how much time you want/need to wind down. i wanted 2 solid hours to accomplish my wind down routine & feel at peace when my head hit the pillow. once i knew this, i knew i needed to decide what time i’d be waking up to determine what time i’d go to bed. since i am admittedly still not much of a morning person, i wake daily when my daughter does which is usually 7/7:30am. i knew i wanted at least 8 hours of sleep so ideally i would be tucked in by 10:30pm to give myself enough time to fall asleep.

this is where the fun part comes in! let’s break down my wind down routine:

  • 8/8:30pm i make my healthy hot cacao packed with magnesium for restless legs (this happened to me often at night before this!) & collagen for extra protein before bed/to end my day.

  • 8:30/9pm i usually watch a show with my husband for an hour or so while drinking my hot cacao! this is also when i apply my castor oil packs. castor oil packs help detox your liver for a natural way to keep everything moving in your body. i apply mine over my liver & then apply a heating pad on top.

  • 9:30/10pm i head upstairs to do my skincare, start my diffuser, spray my bed with my sleepy spray, apply my magnesium cream to my legs, take my sleep+ then read for about 30 minutes or more if the night began sooner.

  • 10:30pm i am all tucked in!

i have truly began to covet this time because it truly puts me in rest mode hours before bed which has led to such better sleep for me! yes, the usual disconnect from electronics, wear the blue light glasses, etc still apply here too! do you have a wind down routine? tell me below!
